Frequently Asked Questions

What shapes and configurations can Artstone make?
Artstone is a job shop. We can do almost any shape required of the project. Artstone has mastered the once near impossible compound radius. However, this will take longer to produce and will add cost to the project.

What are the standard colors offered?
We do not have "standard colors". We reach the color of our stone by using natural aggregates and dry pigments. So our product leans toward natural quarried stone colors.

How does one patch your material?
First it is important that the installer protects the stone as best as possible to help prevent damage to the product. Upon request we will send patching material and instructions. We recommend a good mason be in charge of this patching. Remember; new patches will appear darker, as it cures it will lighten in appearance.

A different look from one panel to the next?
Because of the natural aggregate we use there can be up to a 30% variance not unlike natural stone. Remember that on large projects, with many pieces of product, pieces are at different stages of curing. The wetter the stone the darker it will appear. Given 6 months to a year too fully cure out and the panels will blend in color.

How does Artstone compare to natural stone?
Typically, Artstone is 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of natural stone depending on the thickness of the product. We can match natural stone's color or color hue.

In terms of longevity, how does Artstone compare to natural stone?
Because Artstone is denser than natural stone, it will weather slower. It also absorbs less moisture so is less vulnerable to freeze thaw.

What should I look for when inspecting the product?
The stone should be viewed from a 10' - 20' distance, and be free of any major blemishes. We recommend following the Cast Stone Technical Bulletin #36. (www.caststone.org)

How does Artstone price their product?
We price by the square foot of finished surface.

What finishes are available?
Listed in ascending cost; as cast, exposed aggregate, sand blasted, acid etched and polished.

What is the availability of Artstone's product?
Because we are a job shop, each job is new and unique. Once shop drawings are approved along with a sample and finish you can expect an 8-12 week lead-time for delivery.
